Sneaky Hobbits Update – New LotRO Lottery!

Update from Sneaky Hobbits:

LotRO Lottery – Win stuff for your characters! « Sneaky Hobbits

Turbine announced today a new meta-game experience for Lord of the Rings Online, the LotRO Lottery! Playing the LotRO Lottery is as simple as logging into your My LotRO account, and selecting various drawings via a widget on the left hand side of the screen (default location).

This sounds like a very nifty system! I know that I will be trying my luck at it (though my luck with online competitions tends to.. well.. suck).

LotRO News Update – Orion on Factions/Rep; Skirmish System Dev Diary Part 3

LotRO News Update – Sneaky Hobbits LotRO Blog – Orion on Factions/Reputation; Skirmish System Dev Diary Part 3

Sneaky Hobbits

Lord of the Rings Online Developer Orion posted on his My Lotro blog regarding the Faction/Reputation system. In his post he talks about the reputation system as it is and how he is looking to work on it to bring it up to ‘par’ for players who see it as lacking. He goes over how the system is working currently, and how he sees it to be working in the future – I have to say, the post is quite an interesting read:

Lots of interesting information posted by Turbine today – should keep the forumites busy I think.

Fall Festival… False Start… Sorry Folks

Well, the fall festival for was scheduled for today, but it was ‘tentatively’ scheduled (something I probably should have pointed out huh?). All reports from In Game show the Festival has not gone Live yet, no word on the front but it looks like it is delayed.

I will be sure to update when I find out that the festival is indeed truly live.

LotRO 2.5 years later and finally 42

LotRO 2.5 Years Later

I started playing during its beta period – my current main character has been ‘alive’ since the game was released in April of 2007; that makes it over 2 years of playing LotRO. In this 2 year period I have had to take quite a few breaks due to Real Life, and thus have just managed to start advancing again. I bought when it first came out, but I haven’t yet reached the level cap that Shadows of had! With around the corner it is getting a little crazy trying to keep up, but with the help of my Kinship I should be able to make it.

Getting back into the game the new XP Curve (that went into effect a few patches ago apparently) bumped me up to 41 without me doing much of anything, I killed a ‘trash’ mob and bam – 41 (+ about 1/4 of a level). My main goal at this point is to get to 45 so I can get my first and join my kinships new ‘End Game’ group (not truly End Game, but a group to help people get Radiance Gear and do the various Raids available). I had some disorientation when logging back in after so long, the UI had changed a bit (more features, Quest Tracker addition, etc) and I had no bloody clue where I was, or why I was there! First step was to comb through my quest log, I realized that I needed to drop a bunch of out-leveled (grey) and soon to be out-leveled (-4 levels or more) quests and pick up some new ones in my level range if I wanted to get good XP; So I dropped a bunch of quests and headed over to to meet with some kinmates. They logged onto level 60 alts and helped me complete a bunch of quests and random mob destruction, opened up 3 new deeds and got a taste of what is all about.

I ended that night of excursions with only 24,000 XP +/- to get to level 42 (which I now had something to look forward at, a full set of crit crafted armor from one of my Kinship members!). I logged in the next night (which happened to be Monday) and managed to knock out the rest of the level, and was able to equip my spiffy new armor:

My main (Branadoc) standing in front of his Hobbit Hole in his newly crafted Armor This is a shot of the nifty cloak that came with my new armor set.

At that point I decided to do another long needed task: get my crafting levels up to where they should be. I had been sitting on 300 pieces of Treated Yew to finish out Expert Woodworker, but needed to finish out Journeyman first – problem was that Ash wood didn’t spawn in the areas I was in, and going back to low level areas to scavenge for it wasn’t really fair to the low level players also going for it (mobs would either ignore me or die in a second). I decided to sink to the temptation and bought a stack of Treated Ash on the Auction House, that allowed me to finish up Journeyman on Monday night; I then finished up Expert yesterday afternoon. Next goal is to just keep adventuring and try and get to 45 by the end of the month (personal goal).

All in all my return to LotRO was great, my Kinship ( is awesome and it was great to be greeted like a long lost brother on my return. Groups like this are few and far between in gaming, and when you find one you have to stick with it. I will keep the blog updated with my exploits, and hopefully I’ll remember to shoot some videos of more interesting encounters.

Blog Correction – October 6ths post

Ok, apparently I had a small brain shutdown yesterday when writing my post about the Legendary Item System Updates that are coming with the next Lord of the Rings Online expansion: Siege of Mirkwood. I mistakenly called it Shadows of Mirkwood (in multiple places, showing a complete brain shutdown :/).

The post in question has been updated, hopefully it wasn’t too confusing for readers :)

Upcoming Changes in LotRO – Siege of Mirkwood: Legendary Item System

lotro-som-logo-m

The most recent developer diary on the Lord of the Rings Online website talks about some upcoming changes to the System. It is looking to be a pretty major overhaul of the Legendaries system, and all LI’s (Legendary Items) will have their stats reset so people can properly choose new ones with the updated system.   Not having a Legendary Item yet myself, I can’t really say how this will affect me, but it looks like much of the player feedback about LI’s has been addressed, and that is a good thing. I expect to see some complaining from folks on the forums who see things as fine right now (and maybe don’t want others to be ‘up to par’ with their own stats), but this should be a good update overall.

Developer Diary: Legendary Item System Updates | The Lord of the Rings Online

Developer Diary: Legendary Item System Updates Page 1 of 3 Overview In The Lord of the Rings Online™: Siege of Mirkwood™, we’re updating the Legendary Item system that was introduced in Mines of Moria™. This revision of the Legendary Item system incorporates most of the feedback we have received about Legendary Items since they were introduced. Identification and Reforge Changes One of the primary issues with the system is that players have to invest a large amount of time before knowing that a particular Legendary Item is “good.” We have changed the identification and reforge process to front load the system a bit more. The initial legacies placed on the Legendary Item (LI) at identification are pulled from only the “best” legacies. This ensures the LI has some desirable legacies and the player can make a good guess whether that LI is worthwhile before spending time leveling it.

is the newest upcoming expansion to – it will join the existing expansion and provide many base game updates (available to all players) as well as expansion specific updates.
